The photo exhibition ‘Ocean Fishing — Six Trips on the North Atlantic’ featuring about 30 photos from my book ‘Images of Fishermen: the North Atlantic’ kicked off at the National Maritime Museum in Stockholm in 2008. It continued to the Nordatlantens Brygge in Copenhagen last year, followed by Fiskeri og Søfartsmuseet in Esbjerg, and is now during the summer taking place in Reykjavik, Iceland. The exhibition is backed by the prestigious Nordic Culture Fund as one of the main sponsors of the event.
A description of the book reads: "Images of Fishermen is a coffeetable book that presents, in compelling language, the reality of North Atlantic fisheries as seen through a photographer’s lens and may as well be the first book on the market to cover commercial fishing this comprehensively using photojournalism in conjunction with an expert treatise. Through six photo essays, photographer Maria Olsen delivers a feast of 200 amazing pictures, documenting diverse fishing trips while covering several fishing methods including benthic and midwater trawling, pair trawling, gillnetting, and longlining."
